So, who knew? The love of all things chocolate is legitimately celebrated this week. Excellent news in my book. Today is officially the start of Chocolate Week 2012 and it seems that there is a lot going in to help us get in the choco-love mood!
I don’t know about you, but I love chocolate. I’m not sure I know many people who don’t… although posting that no-doubt ensures that I will find out the few souls who will beg to differ. As far as I am concerned chocolate is one of the musts of parenting. It makes a bad bad feel better and makes an excellent bribe when you really need one!
Anyway, my love of chocolate has, it seems, been legitimised. Chocolate week aims to promote (in its own words) “fine flavour chocolate, celebrating the work of top chocolatiers and chocolate companies.” It’s been around since 2003; how have I not noticed it before?!
There are many free events and I am considering which of the top chocolatiers based around here would be most amenable to a 3 year-old accompanying me to one of their free tastings. It is fairly London-centric at the moment, although there are a few events elsewhere. Click here to search for events in your area.
The Chocolate Week website is definitely worth a browse, with recipes, events and information all about chocolate. Also worth a visit is the Chocolate Unwrapped website. On the Alan Titchmarch clip from chocolate week 2011 which is embedded in the site I found out that we as a nation spend £3.5 billion on chocolate – I don’t want to think about how much of that I contribute.
Chocolate Unwrapped is the final event of Chocolate week and is a weekend of talks, tastings and demonstrations in Covent Garden. The tickets are £10 per adult and £5 per child… sounds like a lot of delicious fun.
